A 61 year old DIYer was jailed for driving his DIY motorized armchair into a parked car after driving from a pub and being intoxicated 3 times the normal limit of alcohol.  Needless to say, the DIY motorized armchair is certainly a piece of work as even the police have tried it out:

Deputy Chief Troy Foucalt said: ‘It actually works. He had broken the steering mechanism, but I was able to drive it around. It’s actually not too bad, you can go fast!’

He said the chair has raised a lot of attention and should sell for a good price in the auction.

‘We have never sold something like that before but a lot of people are asking about it,’ he said.
Too bad, we wish the court would dismiss the case.

Certainly, we knew this day would come, when someone would hook up bunch of sensors and computers to a van, all controllable via an iPhone.  Great, now if we can get these in production, maybe we would never have to drive again.

Well, let’s just say this is way too cool for most people.

Of course, there’s no word on what happens when you go out of WiFi range, we think it’s probably still safe, perhaps the van shuts down automatically.

“Spirit of Berlin” is a project of the Artificial Intelligence Group, directed by Prof. Raul Rojas, at Freie Universitaet Berlin.

Here’s a really weird fly drawing robot that draws based on flies’ movements.

This installation produces drawings based on the subtle movements of houseflies. When flies enter a small chamber sensors detect their movements. A micro-controller articulates a drawing arm in real time based on the fly’s movements. When a fly is no longer detected in the chamber the paper scrolls over and the device waits until a new fly enters the chamber to begin another drawing.

Weird Food DIY – How to Make Bacon Apple Pie!

You probably need ideas to get your guests very happy and drunk, here’s how to make Creepy Crawler for Halloween:

Ingredients:
- 1 oz Brandy
- 1 oz Blood Orange Puree*
- 2 oz GranGala Triple Orange Liqueur
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
- 1-12 oz Bag of Dark Chocolate Chips**
- 1 Orange Truffle or Chocolate-Dipped Orange Slice
- 1 Plastic Spider (optional)

Using 8 to 10 chocolate chips for one drink, heat in the microwave for 20 seconds until almost melted. Take chips out of the microwave and stir with a spoon until completely melted (this method creates best chocolate consistency for making the web). Place the melted chocolate in a squeeze bottle and ‘draw’ a spider web on the inside of the martini glass (glass can be prepared in advance**). In a Boston shaker, add the rest of the ingredients and shake well. Pour into the decorated martini glass. Garnish with an orange truffle or chocolate dipped orange slice. Plastic spider is optional as an alternative garnish or decoration.

Weird DIY Halloween Pitchfork/Trident!

Here’s another weird DIY Halloween cake that might look scary but is probably delicious.

I generally make a bleeding heart cake for our annual pumpkin carving party (Pumpkinfest). Sometimes the heart beats, sometimes it’s anatomically correct, and so on and so forth. This year I decided to go the whole hog and make an entire thoracic cavity cake. The plan was for each organ to be made out of a different kind of cake and to secrete a different color of fluid when it was cut into. Previous heart cakes have bled fresh, homemade raspberry sauce. This year I made raspberry, strawberry, kiwi, mango, and blueberry sauces. Sadly, the organs didn’t bleed as well as I had hoped when I cut the cake, as each organ was relatively small and couldn’t hold much sauce. Also all the moving around after filling the organs made it hard to keep the sauce contained in the little cavities I hollowed out. The heart bled pretty well, but the other organ fluids weren’t very dramatic. On the bright side, there were lots of leftover sauces, which were all quite delicious. But I’m getting ahead of myself. My intended organ-cake-sauce combinations were as follows.

A BED built of old tin cans, perfect in every detail and capable of supporting 1,000 pounds, has been built by J. G. Smith, an unemployed mechanic of Atlanta, Georgia.

Three hundred and thirty-six tin cans of various sizes were used in constructing the bed. Except for the iron locks by which the head, footboard, and siderails are fitted together, and the iron cross pieces which support the springs, no other material was used. Even the bed lamp hanging from the head of the bed uses a tin can for a shade.

If you thought this was a pinhole camera, you are right, it’s the world’s ugliest DIY pinhole camera made with real human skull.

Wayne Martin Bleger makes pinhole cameras using a variety of materials including precious stones, metals, human organs, and bone. This piece, entitled Third Eye, features many of these materials, all constructed around the 150 year-old skull of a 13 year-old girl. The film is exposed to light through titular ocular cavity making a Polaroid momento mori. The photos taken with this camera (one of which is after the jump) stay with the theme, their blurriness and patina making them look as if they were snatched from the memories of the dead.
