About 10 catfish were found swimming in the sewer. Two were about 10 pounds and the rest were about 5 pounds each.

So it turns out the haunting was nothing more than some catfish in the sewer system, but… how did they get their in the first place?

In 1995, the first owner of the house was a catfish lover.

One day, he bought a bucket full of cat fish for dinner and left them in the bathroom waiting to be gutted. Apparently, two of them escaped through the toilet bowl and made a happy family of 10 living in the sewage pond.

The Chilean Sea Bass, also known as the Patagonian Toothfish, is a pretty popular fish at the nicer restaurants. However, it’s also one that is not only overfished, but also caught using damaging fishing practices like longlining – which kills sea birds – and bottom trawling – which damages delicate habitat. Plus, the high mercury content is a turn off. So while you might find some recipes that you’d love to try out that call for this fish, substitute it for something like Pacific Halibut or Striped Bass instead.

A man in Santa Cruz finds a 11-pound GIANT lobster!

The Santa Cruz man landed an 11-pound lobster that will be the main character of a fishing tale for years to come. And if you don’t believe it, you can see it at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

“I won the bug lotto by looking under the right ledge,” said Powers, who like other lobster hunters refers to them as “bugs.”

Although his lobster might not be one for the record books, its the biggest bug many have ever laid eyes on.

In the deep sea, where there’s barely enough light, lies fish with transparent head.  The researchers at Monterey Bay Aquarium have found out why:

Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute recently solved the half-century-old mystery of a fish with tubular eyes and a transparent head. Ever since the “barreleye” fish Macropinna microstoma was first described in 1939, marine biologists have known that its tubular eyes are very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a “tunnel-vision” view of whatever was directly above the fish’s head. A new paper by Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler shows that these unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fish’s head. This allows the barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating.

A homeless man was arrested for fishing and cooking protectedfish at San Luis Obispo Creek.  I think this was overdone, laws are should protect humans first…  Geez, we need some new laws for the homeless, like, “it’s okay for them to fish anything as long as they are not stealing.”

A California transient was sentenced to 10 days in jail for catching an endangered steelhead trout and cooking it over a campfire as he prepared to serve it along with slices of lemon and bread to three other homeless comrades camped along the banks of San Luis Obispo Creek in late January.

Victor Manuel Silva, 23, was arrested by Department of Fish and Game warden Teri Hickey, who went to the creekside location in response to an anonymous tip.

Fish Head Bag Torture?

One of the things you can experience is the Korean Sashimi, slightly different fish and way of serving from Japanese Sashimi.

You can walk into any restaurant in Korea near the ocean and they will make you sushi from a live fish.  (and sometimes the head included too.)

It’s a wonderful sashimi experience and you get the “whole” fish instead of just couple pieces unlike Japanese sashimi.

I don’t think they have Korean restaurants close enough to the ocean here in America but if you get a chance, make sure to get some authentic Korean sashimi in Korea.

Korean Sashimi

My favorite Korean dish is the Octopus sashimi.  Even after you cut the octopus up into pieces, they will move around and when you chew, the tentacles will try to stick to your tongue.

Talk about “weird”, here’s a blue lobster.

Found in New London, CT. by Steve Hatch and his uncle Robert Green Sunday morning in one of their lobster traps at the mouth of the Thames River. This bright blue lobster weighed in at 1 1/2 pounds and has a very rare genetic mutation among the species.

A type of catfish, locally named “Goonch”, has been eating up humans after developing taste for humans when locals dumped dead bodies into the river after funerals.  People, please don’t dump dead bodies into the river anymore…

An 18-year-old Nepali disappeared in the river last year, dragged down by something described as like an “elongated pig”.

But the first victim of a goonch attack was thought to have been a 17-year-old Nepalese boy.

He was killed in April 1988 as he cooled himself in the river.

Witnesses said he was suddenly pulled below the surface.

Three months later a young boy was dragged underwater as his father watched helplessly.

Killer Catfish “Goonch” eats Human Flesh!

Well, it seems that it’s nature’s course that we have Siamese twins or even Siamese twin fish for that matter.  It is way cool though that this twin fish was found in Siam or Thailand, the modern name.

It is so incredibly rare that you would think Siamese twin fish attached at the stomach would never survive. But at eight months old, these two Nile Tilapia fish in Thailand have found the perfect way to cope with life upside down… or the right way up if you’re the lucky twin. The bigger fish protects its smaller sibling on the bottom, while it in turn looks for food.

Here’s a weeeeird goldfish that like to swim upside-down.

Meet the pub goldfish which has spent the past four years swimming upside down.

Aussie floats with its belly pointing up and its eyes staring down because of a problem with its swim bladder.

Regulars at the Globe Inn, in Lympstone, near Exeter, joke that the fish must be drunk. Pub landlord Liam Matthews, 53, bought the goldfish from a pet shop in 2004 but it began swimming upside down six months later.

Well, at least from a wannbe sailor’s point of view, eating the damn crab would be the first thing to do, just don’t play with it.

Brian Fernandes just sent this in, and it sent shivers up my spine… apparently “Coconut Crabs” or “Robber Crabs” are of the crab breed “Fuckus Hugeous”.

The coconut crab is able to crack coconuts with it’s claws and eat the inside.

Wow, this Octopus reminds me of Batman.

As most people know, many octopuses release ink as a strategy to evade predator. The strange blanket octopus, however, in the genus Tremoctopus, uses a very different technique. When threatened, the blanket octopus releases a giant cape-like webbing. I think most of you land-lubbers will find this to be quite an unusual sight.

Found most often at depths of 200-6000 meters in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, marine hatchetfish grow from ca. 2.8 cm long in Polyipnus danae to ca. 2 feet long in giant hatchetfish (Argyropelecus gigas).

Unlike the freshwater varieties, marine hatchetfish are named for their laterally compressed and deeply keeled bodies, somewhat resembling a hatchet blade (with the caudal peduncle being the “handle”). Species of the genus Polyipnus are more rounded in outline. Their bodies are covered in delicate silvery scales which abrade easily. In some species, such as the highlight hatchetfish (Sternoptyx pseudobscura), large sections of the body at the base of the anal fin and/or caudal (tail) fin are transparent.
