(The iPhone control-unit can control the van via accelerometer, gas, and brake. Looks like you get a real-time camera too.)

Certainly, we knew this day would come, when someone would hook up bunch of sensors and computers to a van, all controllable via an iPhone. Great, now if we can get these in production, maybe we would never have to drive again.

Well, let’s just say this is way too cool for most people.

Of course, there’s no word on what happens when you go out of WiFi range, we think it’s probably still safe, perhaps the van shuts down automatically.

“Spirit of Berlin” is a project of the Artificial Intelligence Group, directed by Prof. Raul Rojas, at Freie Universitaet Berlin.

This Video shows our autonomous car controlled with an iPhone – powered by Appirion, a spin-off of the AI group.

Here’s some awesome collection of can cars from Sandy’s can cars.

My favorite is this Guinness classic can car, featuring what seems like a whopping V8 from back in the day with a cool exhaust. What a cool hot rod, now I wish they can make these in real-life size, that’d be the next step in recycling/re-making.

I have always religiously recycled but often spent time looking at the graphics on the can and looking at the shape of the bottom thinking “That could make a really cool wheel”. After having an accident which left me with some time to use, I decided to put pencil to paper and try and make a racing car using the bottoms of cans as its wheels, and the graphics as the decoration for the body.

Very Expensive Car Crashes!

It’s great that you can afford a luxury car but a great deal of responsibility comes along with owning such car as a Ferarri or Lamborghini. If you drive too fast, the results can be a lot more wrecking than your average car since your car’s speed limit is higher.

Car crashes happen the most often happen when the driver drives too fast or is too drunk. In this case, I think stupidity had more to do with crashes than anything else.

FYI, car crashes happen far more often in developed countries than people getting killed from bombs.

Jay Kay, the leadsinger of Jamiroquai band, happened to destroy his beautiful magenta Lamborghini Diablo SE30 (estimated $360000). Kay couldn’t manage the control when trying to turn. He was thrown onto the edge of the road as well as fined £750. But we don’t care for Jay. And here is the result of the car crime.

Here’s a weird-lookin’ wheel covers that camouflage your expensive wheels as if there were no wheels. I think it’s still not going to work as most people can notice that it’s a fake wheel cover but heck, it might work in busy metropolitan areas on some dumb criminals.

As long as the wheel covers deter theft, I see no wrong-doing here.

Created by car artist Tom Kennedy, the Topsy-Turvy Bus (Topsy) is a bus made of two school buses welded together, one upside down on top of the other. The bus is currently touring the country to “dramatically depict America’s upside down budget priorities.

Here’s a really, really, FLAT ride, maybe designed for dwarfs. Of course, it probably can handle real good around corners and even go under big rigs no problem. (Yes, this might be the ultimate bank robbers’ getaway ride.)

The Worlds Lowest Car genre was actually started by Saunders with the creation of his super-low Mini, Claustrophobia back in 1985. Since then the record has passed to the squashed Hillman Imp Impressed of Danny Curtis and then the vertically challenged Lowlife built by Perry Watkins. The outgoing record holder stood at a mere 23.6 inches tall but took rather longer to build, at some 18 months.

I have to admit this F1 Race Car replica made completely from matchsticks is not a great idea if you smoke…

This cool F1 Mercedes McLaren F1 was created by Michael Arndt using 956,000 matchsticks over a span of 6 years. It also took 1686 tubes of glue and the whole thing costed around 6000 Euros. Patience is definitely a key factor and its amazing how intricate the details are to mimic that of the real F1 car.

To keep troops from being stranded and easily ambushed on the battlefield, the Army is working with researchers to develop tires for their Humvees that can better withstand roadside attacks. One such design comes from Resilient Technologies, LLC, based in Wausau, Wisc., and the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center. With a four-year, $18-million grant from the Pentagon, Resilient is working to create a “non-pneumatic tire” (NPT) technology, called that because it doesn’t require air.

It’s hard to say whether the stretched Corvette limousines are beautiful or not. Personally I don’t like them, but they will definitely draw some attention out on the streets.

The limousines look very long, but apparently the longest Corvette limousines are ‘just’ seven meters long (23 feet). It must be the height of the Corvette that cheats the eye.

I don’t think this would ever happen in the States but apparently, people of Manila have decided to use McDonald’s oil to power police cars. A bad idea for catching bad guys in fast cars but what the heck, that’s the joy of life in Asia, there’s no police cars you can’t get away from.

Police in Manila are looking to convert their patrol cars to run on a mixture of diesel and used cooking oil from McDonald’s, officials and the company said Tuesday.via breitbart

With oil prices at crippling highs, the project would convert cars in the Makati financial district to run on a mix of 40 percent diesel and 60 percent cooking oil, its police chief Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz said.

The old specs and pricing for the ironically named Dream Car were about $60,000 in supplies, and that not-so-good 80-mile range mentioned above. Today, the numbers have increased remarkably, with the Dream Car now costing about $8,000 in materials and a mass production model checking in somewhere between $16,000 and $24,000 (depending on government alternative fuel incentives). A single 3.5 hour charge give the car a 240 mile-range for about $5 in electricity costs.
